Ueno station opened in 1883, and developed as a major commuter hub between Tokyo and northern Japan.

- Ueno Onshi Park
- Ueno Park -- which contains Tokyo National Museum, The National Museum of Western Art,
the National Science Museum, Ueno Zoo, and other famous cultural facilities.
It is also famous for the statue of Takamori Saigo by sculptor Koun Takamura.
In spring, the Shinobugaoka Hill is crowded with many people who come to see the beautiful cherry blossoms.

900 different kinds of animals including polar bears and elephants are living at this Japan's most famous zoo.
- Shinobazu Pond
- The Shinobazu Pond is a pond within Ueno Park.
The pond has a circumference of about 2 km and a surface of about 1,100,000m2.
In summer, it will be covered by full of beautiful lotus.
At its center lies Benten Island on which stands the Bentendō temple dedicated to goddess Benzaiten.
- Bronze Statue of "Takamori Saigo"
- One of the most recognized bronze statue in Japan, "Takamori Saigo" created by Koun Takamura stands in Ueno Park.
- The Ueno Royal Museum
- The Ueno Royal Museum combines exhibits from their collection with periodic special exhibits of artwork on loan from museums overseas.
The museum is located inside Ueno Park, close to the Saigo Takamori statue
- The National Museum of Western Art
- The National Museum of Western Art was established in April 1959 based on the Matsukata Collection.
It is the premier public art gallery in Japan specializing in art from the Western tradition.
- Tokyo National Museum
- It is the oldest and largest museum in Japan established in 1872.
The museum holds over 110,000 objects, which includes 87 Japanese National Treasure holdings and 622 Important Cultural Property holdings.
- National Museum of Nature and Science
- The museum offers a wide variety of natural history exhibitions and interactive scientific experiences.

- Ameyoko Street
- Ameyoko is a busy market street along the Yamanote line tracks between Okachimachi and Ueno Station. There are about 400 shops which sells various products such as fresh fish, dried food, cosmetics, and etc.
